Headline NewsLu Yongxiang Visits Norway, Germany and UK Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, paid a visit to Norway, Germany and the United Kingdom from Sep. 6 to 17. From Sep. 6 to 8, Lu visited the Research Council of Norway, University of Oslo and the Institute for Energy Technology. During his visit, Lu attended the Kavli Prize Science Forum co-organized by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research and the Kavli Foundation, where he delivered a keynote speech on ¡°the Role of International Cooperation in Science¡±, and he was also present at the award ceremony of Kavli Prizes. More than 100 famous experts, scholars and senior officials, including Jonas Gahr Store, Norwegian Foreign Minister, Tora Aasland, Norwegian Minister of Research and Higher Education, Fred Kavli, Chairman of the Kavli Foundation, John Holdren, Advisor to President Barack Obama for Science and Technology, Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, Secretary General of the Human Frontier Science Program Organization, Charles M. Vest, President of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, Ralph Cicerone, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, Ichiro Kanazawa, President of the Science Council of Japan, Nils Christian Stenseth, President of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, attended the forum. From Sep. 9 to 14, President Lu visited the Max Planck Society and its institutes. During his visit, Lu and Chairman Peter Gruss of the Society jointly signed a second-phase cooperation agreement on the CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Technology. From Sep. 15 to 17, Lu and his entourage attended the 2010 ASME/Bath Fluid Power and Motion Control Seminar in the United Kingdom and visited the Bath University and relevant research institutes. On Sep. 16 at the seminar, Lu was awarded 2010 Robert E. Koski Medal by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for a lifetime of outstanding contributions in the field of fluid power transmission and control. During Lu¡¯s visit to the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, both parties agreed to jointly hold a bilateral seminar on oceanography in 2011. |
