?International CODATA Conference

The 20th International CODATA Conference opened in the China Resources Hotel Beijing at 6:00 p.m. on Oct. 23rd. Lu Yongxiang, Vice-chairman of the National People’s Congress was present at the conference, and Zhou Guangzhao, Vice-chairman of the Ninth National People's Congress, Xu Guanhua, Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC (MOST), Chen Yiyu, Chairman of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) , Shuichi Iwata, Chairman of CODATA, Jane Lubchenco, former President of the International Council for Scientific Unions (ICSU) and Stanislav Nikolaienko, Minister of the Ministry of Scientific Education of Ukraine were also present and addressed the conference. The20th International CODATA Conference also marks the 40th Anniversary of CODATA. As a gala for scientific data circles, the conference has attracted more than 600 scientists from 31 countries and regions.

The three-day International CODATA Conference aptly titled “Scientific Data and Knowledge within the Information Society”. Lu Yongxiang, Vice-chairman of the National People's Congress and President of CAS, and Shuichi IWATA, CODATA President co-chaired the CODATA 2006 Conference.

World First Chlorophthalic Anhydride
Production-line Built in China

Recently, Dalian Raiser PI Co., Ltd., co-established by the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, CAS and Dalian Raiser Pesticide Co., Ltd. built a production line with capacity of 500-ton in Dalian, synthesizing chlorophthalic anhydride from 1,2-dimethyl benzene through steps of chloridizatio, gaseous oxidization and isomer isolation.

It is the first chlorophthalic anhydride production-line in the world
