President Lu Yongxiang Meets Member of EU Committee Science and Technology
On the afternoon of May 12, Lu Yongxiang, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and President of CAS met with Janez Potocnik, member of the EU Committee of Science and Technology and his entourage in the Great Hall of the People. |
During their talks, President Lu Yongxiang first extended his welcome to the EU Delegation headed by Potocnik for their visit to China. President Lu also proposed that discussions should be held on the interests in cooperative research in the second generation information technology, nano-technology, biotechnology (including health and agriculture), climate of the Tibetan Plateau and biodiversity and ethics in science, on the basis of the good bilateral cooperation established between China and Europe. He particularly stressed it is vital that the cooperation and exchanges between the Chinese |
scientists and European scientists should promote the good cooperative relationship between the government and institutions in science and technology.
President Lu Yongxiang Meets DFG Delegation
On the evening of April 10, Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, met with a delegation of 16 people headed by Prof. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, President of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and entertained them to a dinner. The host and the guests held friendly talks.
The EUROHORS of the EU Foundation has decided to invest 1.2-1.4 billion Euros to increase its support to the postgraduate training program. In response, the German Research Foundation will invest 200-400 million Euros, said President Winnacker. While in Beijing, the DFG delegation also had in-depth discussions with leaders of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, on the cooperation regarding research in the Tibetan Plateau. |

Bai Chunli Meets Cuban Minister of Science & Technology and Environment
On the afternoon of May 16, Bai Chunli, Vice President of CAS met with Bermudas Fernando, Cuban Minister of Science & Technology and Environment, and his entourage. Minister Fernando expressed his good wishes to have cooperation in science and technology between the academies of sciences of the two countries. Both sides expressed the intent to cooperate in nano science & technology and biotechnology, and particularly in the research of agricultural technology.Li Jiayang Meets Israeli Delegation of Science
On May 16, Eli Opper, Chief Scientist of the Israeli Ministry of Industry and Trade, and H.E. Mr. Yehayada Haim, Israeli ambassador to China, and their entourage paid a visit to CAS. Li Jiayang, Vice President of CAS, met with the delegation.At the meeting, Li Jiayang said that he paid a visit to Israel at the beginning of the month and that he was deeply impressed by the Israeli achievements obtained on basis of the close combination of scientific research and industries. He said that he hoped the mutual visits between the two sides would further promote the exchanges and cooperation in science and technology between China and Israel, so that contributions will be made to the development of applied technology and industrialization and to the development of economy.
