China¡¯s First Complete Moon Image Released

On Nov. 12, China¡¯s first image of the whole Moon was formally released. The image was created on the basis of the topological data of the moon captured by the CCD stereo camera installed on lunar orbiter Chang¡¯e-1, which was developed by the Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, CAS. The data was sent back after Chang¡¯e-1 had orbited the Moon 589 times. The first image of the whole moon was formulated after the data were rectified from the perspectives of radiation, geometry and luminosity. The area covered by the picture is located within an 180 south latitude to 180 degrees north latitude and 180 east longitude to 180 degrees west longitude of the Moon.
