Innovation and Development International Cooperation Briefs Visits & Exchanges  
  • Prof. Koropchak, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Dean of the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) paid a visit to the Graduate School of CAS with his entourage on June 2 .
  • On June 6, representatives of the Research Center for National Information and Communication Technology of Australia (NICTA) paid a visit to the Institute of Computing Technology, CAS.
  • Dr. Ulrike Tagscherer, Manager for Asia International Business Development of Fraunhofer and Han Xiaoding, Chief Representative of Fraunhofer China Region paid a visit to the Institute of Computing Technology, CAS with their entourage on June 7.
  • On June 11, with joint efforts of the Institute of Oceanology, CAS, the Tongji University and the French Institute for Polar Research and Technology (FIPRT), the MARCO-POLO2 voyage set sail from Shanghai, accompanied by the hooter of FIPRT's scientific exploration vessel Marion Dufresne, to fulfill the mission of obtaining marine sediment cores from the Tropical West Pacific.
  • The Xinjiang Institute of Ecosystem and Geography, CAS and Tsumura & Co. of Japan reached an intent on June 12 in accordance with the contract regarding cooperation in 2006 in terms of survey on liquorice cultivation area, alternative liquorice enclosures, provision of endemic herbal medicine produced in Xinjiang, etc.
  • On June 13, Prof. K.K.Muralee from the University of Oklahoma, USA paid a visit to the Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, CAS.
  • Dr. Paul F. Uhlir, JD, Director of the Office of International Scientific and Technical Information Programs of the International Committe of Scientific Organizations under the US National Academy of Sciences, paid a visit on June 13 to the Computer Network Information Center, CAS on invitation.
  • On June 14, Prof. Shuichi Iwata, President of the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA), paid a visit to the Computer Network Information Center, CAS on invitation.
  • Prof. James Mitchell, Academician of the US National Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Engineering, and Prof. Edward Kavazanjian from the Arizona State University paid a visit on June 15 to the Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, CAS.
  • Liu Shimin, a famous CSIRO (Australia) expert of animal nutrition and physiology, also a winner of K. C. Wang Education Foundation, paid a visit to the Institute of Subtropical Ecosystem, CAS from June 16 to 23.
  • On June 18, a Thailand delegation of six members, headed by Dr. Mrs. Nongluck Pankurddee, Director of the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, paid a visit to the Institute of Hydrobiology, CAS for exchange on biotechnology of algae.
  • On June 20, an expert group of a Sino-German major cooperative project entitled ˇ°matter fluxes in grassland of Inner Mongolia as influenced by stocking rate (MAGIM)ˇ±, paid a visit to the Inner Mongolia Grassland Ecosystem Research Station, CAS.
  • From June 21 to 23, Prof. Yonathan Zohar, Director of the Center of Marine Biotechnology, University of Maryland and Einstein Professor of CAS, paid a visit to the Institute of Hydrobiology, CAS with his wife.
  • On June 22, Prof. Martin Kropff, President of the Wageningen University, Holland, paid a visit to the Institute of Botany, CAS for academic exchanges.
  • On June 23, Prof. Shuji Nakamura and Steven P. DenBaars, R&D Director and Executive Director of the Solid State Lighting & Display Center, University of California, respectively paid a visit to the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, CAS for academic exchanges.
  • From June 26 to 28, Dr. Yutaka Takebe, a research fellow from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Japan paid a visit to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, CAS.
  • On July 3, Prof. Zhou Zhenghong from the University of Texas-Health Science Center (UTHSC) paid a visit to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, CAS on invitation.
  • On July 5, Mr. Paul Jamet, officer in charge of European Affairs for the General Department of Research and Innovation under the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research , paid a visit to the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, CAS.
  • From July 8 to 13, Prof. Peter Lamb, Director of the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS), under the joint leadership of the University of Oklahoma (USA) and NOAA, paid a five day visit to the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, CAS in Beijing.
  • On July 10, Hoi Kum Yoke, Chief Technology Officer & Senior Vice President of Singapore Hyflux Ltd. paid a visit to the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS with Hyflux's other two senior project directors.
  • On July 12, a delegation of six members from the Academy of Sciences of D.R.R. Korea, paid a visit to the Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, CAS.
  • On July 16, Prof. Michael Goodfellow, director of the Center for Functional and Applied Microbiology of Microbiology College, University of Newcastle, paid a visit to the Genomics Institute, CAS.
  • On July 19, a delegation of scientists from the Swedish Karolinska Institute paid a visit to the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, CAS.
