2nd Meeting of Chinese TWAS Fellows Convoked in Beijing

The 2nd Meeting of Chinese TWAS Fellows was convoked in Beijing on December 21, 2002. At the opening ceremony presided by CAS Vice President Zhu CHEN, Prof. Yongxiang LU, as CAS President and TWAS Vice President, delivered a speech on TWAS work. And then Prof. Huadong GUO, CAS Deputy Secretary General, made an outline of the preparatory work for the 14th TWAS General Meeting and the Celebration of TWAS 20th Anniversary that are scheduled for October 2003.
In his speech, Prof. Yongxiang LU first reviewed last October's TWAS 13th General Meeting held in Delhi, India, and then sought for the TWAS Fellows' advice on the preparation for TWAS 2003 General Meeting. The TWAS Fellows put forward positive suggestions on the preparation and organization of TWAS 2003. Furthermore, they pointed out that the reinforcement of the communication and cooperation with the Third World countries will not only benefit the common development and friendship between China and the rest of the Third World, but also benefit the global peace, development and stability.

President Yongxiang LU Participating in the Meeting of IAC Council

At the invitation of Professor Koers, the Executive Director of IAC, president Yongxiang LU participated in the meeting of IAC Council held in Amsterdam of Netherlands from January 20th to 22nd. During the meeting, new annual working program for IAC has been discussed, financial report of IAC examined, and some programs for new projects studied, such as the projects of energy and capacity building in developing countries, etc.
