Premier Wen Jiabao Calls on Prof. He Zehui , Member of CAS

On the morning of Sep. 18, accompanied by Bai Chunli, Executive Vice President of CAS, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called on Prof. He Zehui, member of CAS.

Qian Sanqiang, who passed away in 1992, was the founder of the Chinese atomic energy science. He Zehui, his wife, is the first female scientist working on nuclear physics in China. She and Qian Sanqiang jointly discovered the phenomena of tripartition and quadripartition of the uranium nuclear and are known as the Chinese Curies.

Bringing with him the Chinese traditional moon cakes and flowers for Prof. He, Premier Wen said to her "Those who have contributed to the country should not be forgotten". He also highly praised Qian Sanqiang and He Zehui for their great contributions to science and technology, particularly to the Chinese national defense.

Lu Yongxiang Meets Japanese CTO Delegation

On Sep. 24, Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, met a Japanese CTO delegation led by Mr. Nishiyama, Director of Board and Vice President of the Japanese Ajinomoto Co., Inc.

It is reported that the delegation consisted of mainly CTOs and principals responsible for technological development from the famous Japanese large enterprises, engaged in power generation, IT, home appliances, medical instruments, food staffs, bio-pharmacy, auto parts, precision instruments, electronics, and chemical industry. Members of the delegation also included principals from Ajinomoto Co. Inc. , Toshiba Corporation and Omron, Olympus Corporation, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Fuji Electric HD , Mitsubishi Chem, NSK Ltd. and Showa Denko KK.

Workshop on Strategy of International Cooperation Held

In August and September, Workshop on Cooperation Strategy of Science and Technology with Russia, Workshop on Cooperation Strategy of Science and Technology with Western Europe, and Seminar on Exchange and Cooperation of Science and Technology with Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan were organized and held in Beijing successively by CAS. Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, attended the above mentioned meetings and delivered important speeches. Leaders from the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation, the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, and the administrators in charge of international cooperation in different institutes of CAS attended these meetings. During these meetings, the participants mainly discussed the strategic targets, key research areas, and ways for the implementation of the Knowledge Innovation Program at Phase III. The respective positions, duties and roles of the two levels of the headquarters and the institutes in the international cooperation were clearly defined. The sponsoring of such meetings has proved to be important to the all-dimensional, multilevel and high standard multilateral and bilateral cooperation in science and technology conducted by the CAS headquarters and its institutes.
