President Hu Jintao and Other State Leaders Made Inspection Tour of CAS

Chinese President Hu Jintao made an inspection tour of CAS on Dec. 29.

President Hu Jintao pointed out that, CAS, as a national strategic scientific and technological force, should not only create first-class achievements, first-class benefits and first-class management, but also first-class talents. CAS should strive hard to play a pioneering role of backbone in the development of the Chinese science and technology by strengthening the ability to grasp the situation of the world development in science and technology, and by persisting in designing scientific innovation based on catching up the world advanced level and promoting technological innovation based on increasing international competitiveness. CAS should strengthen technological innovation and transfer of S & T results; strengthen public scientific innovation, basic research and science popularization, in order to build a solid scientific base for the current and future development of China. CAS should make perspective arrangement for science and technology, strategic study, give play to national think bank of sciences, and thus to provide actively consultancy and scientific basis for the national macro decision-making. CAS should give free rein to the leading demonstrative role of the Knowledge Innovation Program by its pilot project, and thus to widen the cooperation scope with universities, enterprises and local authorities, and build hand in hand with nation-wide S&T circles the national innovation system with the Chinese characteristics.

From Jan. 13 to 14, other seven central government leaders, Wu Bangguo, Jia Qinglin, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun and Luo Gan also made inspection of the CAS Exhibition on the Knowledge Innovation Achievements respectively after President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao's inspection. They spoke positively and highly of the great achievements in the pilot phase of the CAS Knowledge Innovation Program during the last six years.

Lu Yongxiang Delivered a New Year's Message at Academy's Ceremony of Flag-raising

On Dec. 31, a Ceremony of Flag-raising for the 2005 New Year's Day was held at the headquarters of CAS. Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS delivered a New Year's Message at the Ceremony: In the new year to come, CAS will exercise the scientific view of development, strengthen independent innovation in science and technology, which is taken as the mainline of the pilot project of the Knowledge Innovation Program in the third phase CAS, as a national strategic scientific and technological force, will take further steps to play the role of backbone and guidance, accelerate the construction of the national system of innovation capacity with the Chinese characteristics, and realize the leap-forward and sustainable development of the CAS innovation capacity in science and technology.

Lu Yongxiang Met Chairman of Sony Corporation

Recently, President Lu Yongxiang and Vice President Li Jinghai met with IDEI Nobuyuki, Chairman of the Sony Corporation and his entourage.

On behalf of CAS, Lu Yongxiang, extended a welcome to IDEI Nobuyuki and his entourage. Nobuyuki expressed his appreciation to Lu Yongxiang for his meeting with the delegation.

Vice President Li Jinghai and Mr. IDEI Nobuyuki signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fields of information technology, network communication, materials, bioengineering and electronics.
