Bai Chunli Meets Dave Garner of Royal Society Publishing

CAS President Prof. Bai Chunli met with Dr. Dave Garner, the visiting editor of Philosophical Transactions A of the Royal Society (RS), and his publishing colleagues on Aug. 28th, 2012. Dr. Garner briefed the preparation status and the promotion project of the special journal on Molecular Nanostructure and Nanotechnology edited by CAS, which is to be published by RS. Both parties agreed to further promote cooperation between CAS and RS, particularly in the publishing area.

Zhan Wenlong Attends IUPAP Assembly

Prof. Zhan Wenlong, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) led a delegation to visit Japan on Aug. 14-17, 2012 to attend the conference of IUPAP Working Group on International Cooperation in Nuclear Physics (ICNP) and the conference of IUPAP Commission on Nuclear Physics. During his trip to Japan, Prof. Zhan also visited the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan (AIST) and National Institute of Radiological Science, Japan.

Yin Hejun Meets Bignami, President of COSPAR

Prof. Yin Hejun, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) met with Prof. Bignami, President of COSPAR on Sep. 13. The both parties exchanged views on issues of common concerns. Prof. Bignami proposed that the two sides could take advantage of the platform of COSPAR to develop more comprehensive cooperation and to push forward the cooperation between relevant research institutes of CAS and INAF. Prof. Yin expressed his hope to further strengthen collaberation with COSPAR to promote the development of space science in China and to launch more cooperation in the future.

Zhang Yaping Visits Russia

From Aug. 30 to Sep. 4, CAS Vice President Prof. Zhang Yaping headed a delegation to visit the Russian Academy of Sciences. The visit was focused on the life sciences progress in Russia. The two sides exchanged views on the potential bilateral cooperation in the research areas of biodiversity, genetics, biophysics, etc. On Sep. 4, Prof. Zhang Yaping and Dr. A. F. Andreev, Vice President of Russian Academy of Sciences, signed an agreement on scientific cooperation (2012-2016) on behalf of the two academies respectively. During their stay, the delegation also called on the Moscow State University.

Zhang Yaping Meets Alvaro Prata, Vice Minister of MCTI

On Aug. 22, Prof. Zhang Yaping, CAS Vice President met with Dr. Alvaro Prata, Vice Minister of Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) of Brazil. Prof. Zhang expressed his warmest welcome on behalf of CAS and its President Prof. Bai Chunli, hoping that by taking this opportunity, both parties should further promote and crystalize the preliminary cooperative agreement in areas of bio-tech, nano-tech, renewable energy, space science and talent training, which was agreed upon during President Bai’s visit to Brazil last year.

Fang Xin Visits DPRK

Prof. Fang Xin, Member of the CAS Presidium, led a delegation to visit DPRK from Sep. 24th to 28th, 2012. Prof. Fang Xin and the delegation were invited by the State Academy of Sciences for its 60th anniversary ceremony. During the visit, Prof. Fang Xin and Dr. Ri Chol Jin, Vice President of the State Academy of Sciences jointly chaired a meeting to foster bilateral cooperation between the two academies. Dr. Jang Chol, President of the State Academy of Sciences also met with the delegation.
