Fifth Congress for Chinese TWAS Members Held

Nearly 60 Chinese TWAS (the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World) Members attended the Fifth Congress for the Chinese TWAS Members held on April 16. Bai Chunli, Vice President of TWAS and President of CAS was present at the conference and delivered a working report. In his report, Bai pointed out that to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation with TWAS will help promote friendship between China and the developing countries, and the advancement of the cooperation in multi-forms and mutual benefits. Bai further expressed that the Chinese TWAS Members will actively assume the duties to encourage and help with scientists of the adjacent developing countries in applying all categories of TWAS awards, and the education for the younger scientific talents in the developing countries aiming to solve the economic and social issues of common concern in the developing countries.

First Coordination Meeting between CAS and DOE Held

Entrusted by Bai Chunli, President of CAS, Jiang Miansheng, President of CAS Shanghai Branch co-chaired the First Coordination Meeting between CAS and DOE, USA with William Brinkman, Director of DOE Office for Science. Both parties expressed that the coordination committee should be best used as a platform for the cooperation mechanism, while scientists of both countries should be encouraged to play positive role in promoting cooperation in fields of energy and basic science, and a subordinate mechanism should be established at an appropriate time. The Summery of the First Coordination Meeting of CAS and DOE was signed afterwards. During the conference, Bai Chunli met with some of the members of the American delegation.
