Lithium from the Salt Lake Sees Bright Future

On Oct. 21, the National Hi-tech Industrialization Demonstration Project “Extraction of Lithium and Comprehensive Utilization of Resources from Qinghai Salt Lakes” managed by CAS passed acceptance. The construction of this project was started in November 2001. This project is jointly managed by CAS and Qinghai Province. Qinghai Lithium Co., Ltd. undertook the construction works of the project and Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes provides technical support to the project. The project adopts salt field technology, technology of extracting lithium from high magnesium-lithium ratio salt lakes, boric acid and potassium sulphate preparation technology and optimization of many results of research. A lithium carbonate industrialization demonstration line was built. This project can produce 3,000t lithium carbonate, 2,500t boric acid and 25,000t potassium sulphate every year.
