Visits & Exchanges
- On Oct. 10, State Key Laboratory of Catalysis (SKLC) of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS and the Research Institute for Catalysis at Hokkaido University held a signing ceremony for the Agreement on Friendly Academic Exchanges & Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
- Recently, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, the Tsukuba University, Chiba University, and National Institute for Environmental Studies, Center for Agricultural Resources Research and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS co-organized an In-service Training Program oriented to Chinese young scholars engaged in hydrology and water resources. Eight Chinese and Japanese hydrologists provided special training for more than 20 young scholars from the Center for Agricultural Resources Research and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research and conducted academic exchanges with them.
- On Oct. 15, Katsuhiko Iseki, Head of the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan (Director of the Pharmaceutical Research Lab of Toray Industries, Inc.) led a delegation to visit the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, CAS.
- On Oct. 22, Dr. Daniel Egret, President of the Paris Observatory paid a special visit to the Purple Mountain Observatory, CAS on invitation.
- Recently, Tony Chan, Assistant Director of NSF, US and the NSF Basic Science Delegation paid a visit to the China Astronomical Observatories, CAS, etc.
- The Council of Crustacean Society (TCS) granted the 2007 Crustacean Society Award for Excellence in Research (TCSAER) to Prof. Liu Ruiyu, member of CAS. Prof. Liu Ruiyu is the first Asian scientist who has won such award.
- On Nov. 6, Prof. Richard Ernst, laureate of the Nobel Prize, made an academic speech entitled From Monsieur Fourier to fMRI for research staff and students in the Wuhan Branch, CAS.
- Recently, Dr. Shui Yumin of the Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS received a letter from Dr. Peter H. Raven, Chairman of the Committee for Research and Exploration of the US National Geographic Society to confirm that his project on survey of the vascular plants in the Sino-Vietnam Border Area in Yunnan Province(No. of 8288-07) will be granted one-year financial support from the Society.
- On Nov. 12, the Ningbo Institute of Material Technology & Engineering, CAS, solemnly held a ceremony to confer the title of honorary professor to Akihisa Inoue, President of Tohoku University, Japan and member of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. On the same day, the institute also engaged Noritaka Ishiyama, President of GMC Hillstone Co., Ltd., as visiting professor. Professor Akihisa Inoue and Prof. Lu Ke, member of CAS inaugurated the Sino-Japanese Joint Laboratory for Linear Electric Motors that was jointly established by GMC Hillstone Co., Ltd., Japan and the institute.
- On Nov. 14, Martyn Anthony Dickson and Gordon Jams Schofield, Horticulturists of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, U. K., paid a visit to the Kunming Botanical Garden and Lijiang Botanical Garden. From Nov. 15 to Nov. 16, they held horticultural training course for employees of the Kunming Botanical Garden.
- On Nov. 22, an Indian delegation participating in the Second Sino-Indian Bilateral Workshop paid a visit to the Institute of Oceanology, CAS.
- From Nov. 22 to Nov. 23, Maw-Kuen Wu, Director of the Institute of Physics, Taiwan, and his entourage, paid a visit to the Institute of Physics, CAS.
- On Nov. 27 afternoon, Dr. Catherine Br¨Śchignac, Chairman of the French National Center for Scientific Research, who was on a visit to China with Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France, paid a visit to the Graduate University of CAS, and delivered a keynote speech at the 67th China Sciences and Humanities Forum.
