Heavy Ion Therapy for Tumor

On Jul. 19, the Lanzhou Municipal Government, the Institute of Modern Physics, CAS and Gansu Shengda Group signed an agreement on co-building of the ¡°Lanzhou Heavy Ion Tumor Therapy Center¡±, with the government to coordinate the project, the institute to provide technical support and the enterprise to provide funds. Leaders of the Lanzhou Municipal Government, CAS and Gansu Shengda Group and other relevant parties attended the signing ceremony for the project. The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Tumor Therapy Center jointly built by three parties will be the first heavy ion tumor therapy center in China. The total investment of this project is over 1 billion Yuan. This center is scheduled to be completed within 2 to 3 years.

Loss-Control Fertilizer

The data reveals that the utilization ratio of fertilizer nitrogen in China is only 30¡«35%£¬most of which are lost through radial flow, seepage, volatilization and other ways. Low utilization ratio and serious loss of fertilizer not only cause waste of energy and resources and economic losses, but also result in environmental deterioration. The Hefei Institute of Physical Science of CAS and Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory for Ion Beam Bioengineering developed a new kind of fertilizer additive ¨C fertilizer loss-control agent after many years¡¯ efforts. The fertilizer nutrient loss-control agent is a kind of odorless and tasteless solid powder. It has certain water absorbing capacity and becomes flocculent when wet; its swelling ratio is ¡Ý3. As it is made of environmental friendly and naturally degradable organic or inorganic substance, long-term application of this fertilizer loss-control agent can improve the physical and chemical properties of soil, reserve water in the soil and loosen the soil, retain fertilizer, reduce emission and widespread pollution from the overuse of fertilizers in rural area and protect natural ecological environment on the basis of increasing production and efficiency. The Hefei Hongsifang (Fertilizer) Group put 40,000t loss-control compound fertilizer on the market this spring, which has been well received by the farmers. To meet the demands of the market, it invested in a new loss-control compound fertilizer production line with an annual production capacity of 600,000t. When this production line is put into production, loss-control fertilizer can be applied to all 10 million mu (about more than 6.6 million hectares) of farm land at the Chaohu Watershed. Anhui Diyuan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. has established contacts with over 200 domestic fertilizer manufacturers and is planning to build, in their joint efforts, two production bases with 1 million ton capacity for loss-control fertilizer and production, and two education and research bases through cooperation. It is predicted that the loss-control fertilizer will promote updating and upgrading of fertilizer products in China.
