International Cooperation Sino-German Efforts on Human Evolution On May 22, the Joint Laboratory for Human Evolution and Scientific Archeology established by the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (VPP) and Graduate School of CAS and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology was founded in Beijing. The laboratory aims to build an experiment and technology sharing platform, effectively integrate and utilize advantages of relevant institutions in resources, talents and technology and systematically use modern S&T methods to study human evolution and scientific archeology. Sino-European Seminar on Space Held The Fifth Sino-European Joint Space Science Seminar was held at headquarters of the European Space Agency in Paris recently. A Chinese delegation led by Wu Ji, Director General of the Center for Space Science and Applied Research (CSSAR), CAS, attended the seminar. The Chinese delegation consisted of 8 experts from CSSAR, National Astronomical Observatories, Institute of High Energy Physics, Institute of Mechanics, etc. David Southwood, Director of Space Science Project Department of the European Space Agency was present at all sessions. The two parties discussed issues on ground data receiving station support provided by the European Space Agency to the Yinghuo-1 Mars Probe Project, Mars Research Training Course to be organized by the European Space Agency at the National Astronomical Observatories this summer, IXO, Gaia and relevant cooperation plans of common interest, and signed a minutes for the meeting. The delegation also held talks with officials and scientists of the Space Exploration Department of the European Space Agency. Both parties agreed to expand the cooperative research areas.
