Spotlights of ExchangesWorld Immunologists Gathered to Control Diseases From Oct. 25 to 27, the International Conference on Regulatory T Cells and Clinical Application, co-hosted by the Institute of Microbiology, CAS, Chinese Academy of Immunology and the Transplantation Tolerance Foundation, UK, was held in Beijing. During the three days¡¯ conference, more than 40 experts from Europe, USA, Japan and China had discussions from different perspectives and directions on the development, mechanism of suppression, diversification, immune intervention in cancer, autoimmune disease & allergy of regulatory T cells and up-to-date information on the clinical trials taken in the UK, Germany and Italy. The current research shows that the regulatory T cells exist in multiple class groups, and play a crucial important role during the immune reaction. The increasing profound research on regulatory T cells will provide new opportunity to cure cancer, autoimmune disease, allergy and to strengthen the tolerance of medical transplantation. At the conference, more than 400 participants discussed the latest progress on the function, reaction mechanism, homeostasis and the clinical application of regulatory T cells, expecting to form new research strategy directed to the clinical practice in various human diseases in the future. 13th IBS Symposium Held On Oct. 13, the 13th International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS) & Exhibition, co-hosted by CAS and other relevant departments, was held in Dalian. Li Jiayang, Vice President of CAS, Xu Rigan, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Xia Deren, Mayor of Dalian, and some 3,000 experts on biotechnology from more than 80 countries and regions attended this symposium. Themed by ¡°Biotechnology for Sustainable Development of Human Society¡±, this symposium covers the basic research, development of application technology, industrial development and relevant government policies.
