Cooperation between CAS and Local Authorities

Pudong: Cornerstone Laid for Technology Transfer

On Dec. 30, 2008, the ceremony for commencing construction of CAS Pudong Science Park and laying cornerstone for the New Technology Base was held. Yu Zhengsheng, Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Communist Party Committee, and Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, attended the ceremony and co-pressed the button for construction commencement. Han Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai and Jiang Mianheng, Vice President of CAS addressed the ceremony. Shi Erwei, Vice President of CAS presided over the ceremony. It is reported that in the project, a new technology innovation base will be built in Pudong Science Park involving core fields such as information technology, energy technology, material technology, space technology and biomedical technology, etc. It aims to strengthen CAS¡¯s capacity in systematic innovation and integration of significant technologies, and to solve national key strategic hi-tech issues and issues concerned with major demands produced from regional economic and social development and thus to play an important role in S & T support by integrating resources and launching forward-looking hi-tech research and comprehensive integration of R&D.

Major Project on Life Science

On Dec. 30, 2008, the ceremony for initiation of project ¡°Basic and Applied Research Platform and Technological Guarantee Conditions for Life Science of CAS Shanghai Branch¡± was held. Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS declared commencement of the project construction. Jiang Mianheng, Vice President of CAS, attended the ceremony. Shi Erwei, Vice President of CAS and Shen Xiaoming, Vice Mayor of Shanghai addressed the ceremony.

This project will cover gross floor area over 100,000 square meters when the new construction and expanding work is completed. With an investment of 600 million RMB yuan, it is a key life science project in Phase III of CAS Innovation Program aiming to solve key S & T issues in the eco-social sustainable development.
