Fourth Int'l Conference on Debris-flow Held in Chengdu
The 4th International Conference on Debris-Flow Hazard was unveiled on Sep. 10 in Chengdu.
Scholars and researchers are invited to exchange ideas on 6 themes, including mechanism of debris flow, hazard prediction and risk assessment. There were 80 sessions of academic presentations and 13 research results scheduled for display and discussion. Moreover, a seminar for debris flow hazard treatment and prediction was specially arranged. At present, there are thousands of debris-flow disaster cases taken place in China each year. During 1995-2006, the contingent disasters of debris flow and landslide left 12,428 lives dead or missing. The average figure of the casualty or missing is 1,036 each year, with the direct economic loss of 8,000 million RMB yuan. Moreover, the trend is seen an increase year on year
