Cooperation between CAS and Local Governments Bioscience International Cooperation Brief News Visits & Exchanges
  • On March 28, Hou Jianguo, Executive Vice President of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), met with Prof. Fantoni, Director of Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Advanzati (SISSA) and his entourage, and signed an agreement for the exchange of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers.
  • On April 5, Kenneth E. Bechring, President of the Global Health and Education Foundation, and D.A. Mcquade, Executive Vice President of UC at Berkeley, visited the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Nature Resources Research, Water Resources Research Center, and Key laboratory of Water Cycle & Related Land Surface Processes, CAS.
  • On April 11, Joshua Goldberg, J. Nathan Bland, Deputy Consuls of USA Consulate Office to Shenyang, and their entourage visited the Institute of Metal Research, CAS, on invitation.
  • In April, the two-week training course for eco-management of plant diseases, insect pests and mouse sects was jointly held by the Irrigated Rice Research Federation and the Institute of Zoology, CAS at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) of the Philippines. 14 scholars from China, Belgium, Cambodia, India, Burma, Pakistan, Philippines, England and Viet Nam, etc. took part in the training.
  • From April 15 to 19, on invitation of the Malaysian Industrial Development (Sabah) and Sabah Capital Management Company, Chen Yong, President of CAS Guangzhou Branch, led a delegation consists of mainly of experts of renewable energy resources to Sabah, Malaysia.
  • On April 17, Senior Prof. Dr. Robert. M. Goodman, Director and famous plant pathologist of Rutgers School of Environmental & Biological Sciences, and Dr. Huang Weilin paid a visit to the State Key Laboratory of Organic Geochemistry, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, CAS, and signed an agreement on cooperative research in the field of environmental research and exchange of ?graduate students.
  • On the morning of April 23, Ms. Olga Martha Montiel, Vice President of the Missouri Botanical Garden and Director of its Conservation and Sustainable Development Center, and Mr. Chuck Miller, Director of the Information Technology Center, paid a visit to the Institute of Botany, CAS.
  • On April 30, Eric W. Schneider and Simon C. Tung, principals of the Chemical and Environmental Laboratory of US GM Corporation, and its China representative Liu Xinkuan and their entourage paid a visit to the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS.
  • On May 9, Klausener, research director of the Bayer Crop Science, and his entourage paid a visit to the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBS), CAS and held a symposium of fluorine chemistry in the Key Laboratory of Organofluorine Chemistry, CAS.
  • In May, Noritatsu TSUBAKI, Prof. of Faculty of Engineering, Toyama University, paid a visit to the State Key Laboratory of Coal Conversion, Sanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry (SXICC), CAS. During the visit, the Japanese guests visited the State Key Laboratory of Coal Conversion and Medium Scale Production Base of SXICC, CAS, held discussions with relevant working groups of the Laboratory, and delivered lectures.
  • After discussing and preparing for over half a year, the Institute of Semi-conductor, CAS and the Nagoya Institute of Technology held a ceremony on May 18 to sign an agreement on international cooperation and exchange. Li Jinmin, Director of the Institute of Semi-conductor, and Nobuyuki Matsui, President of Nagoya Institute of Technology, signed the agreement.
  • In mid-May, Dr. Wolfgang Rossner, Directors of Ceramic Research Department of Siemens Corporate Technology and Dr. Ulrich Bast paid a visit to the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, CAS.
  • On May 22, Qiu Juliang, Deputy Director Genral of the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS met with Dr. Jon Tanner, the visiting Director of International Cooperation, Ministry of Research, Science & Technology of New Zealand, and his entourage.
  • On May 22, Dr. Graeme Henderson, President of the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) and professor of Bristol University, headed his BPS group of 3 to visit the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, CAS.
  • In May, upon the motion of Dr. Shen Xun, Research Fellow of the Institute of Bio-physics (IBP), CAS, and Dr. Susumu Terekawa, Vice President of Hamamatsu University of Medicine, the ¡°Training Course on Application of Modern Micro-imaging Technique in Bio-medical Studies¡± was jointly held by IBP, CAS and the Hamamatsu University of Medicineat IBP, CAS. Over 240 young scholars attended the training course.
  • In late May, Lynn J. Rothschild, Director of Astrobiology Strategic Analysis Center, NASA and Prof. of Stanford University, paid a visit to the Institute of Microbiology, CAS, and gave a lecture entitled ¡°Life in Extreme Environment¡±.
  • On May 25, Yukihiro OZAKI, Director of the Institute of Technology of Kwansei Gakuin University, paid a visit to the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, CAS, and was conferred Honorary Professor of CIAC.
