Lu Yongxiang Inspects Sino-Russian S & T Park

Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, made a field survey to the Sino-Russian Science and Technology Park in Changchun Sep. 9 afternoon. The main body of the Park will soon be completed for some Hi-tech enterprises to land in. Lu Yongxiang pointed out that the Park shall become a place that highlights the cooperation between science, technology and industry. The development of the Park will forcefully promote the research institutes of CAS in Changchun and northeast China as well as the substantial S&T exchanges and cooperation between other scientific research institutions and their counterparts in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

Bai Chunli Present at First Kavli Prize Awarding Ceremony

At 14:00 p.m., Sep. 9, seven pioneering scientists in the fields of nanoscience, neuroscience and astrophysics received the first Kavli Prizes awarded by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Literature. Tora Aasland, Minister of Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, Chairman of the Kavli Prize Committee and some 900 scientists and guests from all over the world attended the event. Bai Chunli, Executive Vice-President of CAS and member of the Kavli Prize Selection Committee and Wu Yueliang, member of CAS, Director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics (ITP), CAS and Director of Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics China attended the ceremony on invitation.

Foreign Experts Granted National Awards

Prof. Lothar Reh from Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule Zščrich (ETH), Swiss and Prof. Scott Douglas Rozelle from the Institute of International Studies of the Stanford University, USA were both recently awarded the Friendship Prize and International S & T Cooperation Prize of the PRC for the year of 2008. The two experts have been working together with their CAS partners for years and have greatly contributed to the international scientific cooperation and personnel exchanges. The two experts were granted afore in 2007 the CAS Prize for International S & T Cooperation Prize.
