Six S&T Joint Research Centers Co-established

On the morning of Dec. 19, 2006, the CAS Beijing Branch signed an “Agreement on Overall Cooperation” with Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, signaling the launch of construction of the following six joint research centers: Beijing Joint Center of Environmental Noise and Vibration Control Technology, Research Center for New Development of Countryside in the Mountainous Areas in Beijing, Beijing Research Center of S&T System and Policy, Research Center of Urban Ecosystem Safety in Beijing, China Joint Center of Cleaner Production in Light Industry, and Capital Research Center of Radiation Technology and New Materials.

Remarkable Progress Made in Cooperation with Local Governments

In recent years, CAS has planned and implemented a series of key projects and engineering projects jointly with its local counterparts in line with China’s regional development strategies, such as the “Grand Western Development” and “Revitalization of the Old Industrial Bases of the Northeast China”, which have effectively boosted the development of local based economy and the core competitiveness of local companies. As planned, 444 million RMB yuan will be invested in these cooperative projects, with 142 million RMB yuan financed by CAS where 30.45 million RMB yuan had been paid up in 2005 and 2006, bringing along more than 400 million RMB yuan input from local institutions and companies.

CAS has signed S&T cooperation agreements with 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, totally appointing over 1,100 S&T deputy officials at different government levels for 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. In 2005, the commercialization of S&T results produced sales income up to 41.42 billion RMB yuan and the tax totaling 7.6 billion RMB yuan.
