Activities of CAS Leaders Bai Chunli Meets Megan Clark, CSIRO Chief Executive Bai Chunli, President of CAS, met with Megan Clark, Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) and Frances Adamson, Australian Ambassador to the People¡¯s Republic of China, March 11. The two sides had a discussion on S&T cooperation and development strategy of national research institutions. Clark expressed her recognition on the progress in terms of projects collaboration in recent years and highlighted the achievements made in the areas of stem cell, energy and nanotechnology etc. Bai expected an even greater advancement in future bilateral partnership. Bai Chunli and Zhang Yaping Meet Netherlands Minister Bai Chunli, President of CAS, met with Jet Bussemaker, Minister of Education, Culture and Science, the Netherlands, March 26. The two sides signed another new term of MOU. Bai appreciated the partnership and hoped it to be deepened. Zhang Yaping, Vice President of CAS, showed his gratitude to the ministry¡¯s long term support to the bilateral cooperation. He hoped that the two side could cooperate to train personnel and explore ways of communication on internationalization of education and research. Bussemaker echoed with a high praise on the partnership for the past 30 years, especially the joint research on the development of science; the CAS had showed great capabilities of research in the cooperation which is complementary to the Netherlands. She hoped to further the cooperation on science and education to achieve a mutual development. Zhang Yaping Meets President of ASRT Zhang Yaping, Vice President of CAS, met with Magid M. Al Sherbiny, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) Feb. 24. Zhang briefed the guests about the CAS-TWAS President¡¯s PhD Fellowship Programme implemented since 2013 and hoped more Egyptian young scholars to study in CAS to obtain their doctorates. Al Sherbiny echoed that ASRT and other Egyptian research institutions attached great importance to the cooperation with CAS. He agreed with Zhang and hoped to futher and expand cooperation between the two institutions in the future. Fang Xin Hosts GenderInSITE Coordinating Group Meeting Fang Xin, President of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and Member of the CAS Presidium, and Shirley Malcom, Head of Education and Human Resources Programs at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), host the Coordinating Group Meeting of Gender in Science, Innovation, Technology and Engineering (GenderInSITE), held in the headquarter of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Trieste, Italy, Feb. 3¨C4. The meeting was co-sponsored by OWSD, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). More than 20 attendants at the meeting were from the coordinating group, Sida, the Elsevier Foundation, and UNESCO. |
