Seminar and Awarding Ceremony Held for Foreign Experts

On Aug. 30, CAS sponsored a seminar for foreign experts and an awarding ceremony for young scientists, winners of international prize. CAS Vice President Zhang Yaping and CAS Deputy Secretary General Tan Tieniu were present at the occasion, and Mr. Cao Jinghua CAS Deputy Director General for International Cooperation, chaired the meeting. Tan, on behalf of CAS, delivered welcome remarks to the foreign experts and announced the decision of the awards for the winners of 2012. Zhang Yaping granted the awards to 9 Chinese and overseas scientists at the occasion.

UNEP Resource Efficiency: Eco and Outlook for China Released

On Aug. 2, the UNEP Resource Efficiency China report – Resource Efficiency: Economics and Outlook for China that was prepared jointly by UNEP, CSIRO and the CAS Institute of Policy and Management was released during the Forth International Desert Forum held in Kubuqi, Erdos, Inner Mongolia. The press conference for the report announcement was chaired by Peter Gilruth, Director of Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA), Achim Steiner, UNEP Director and UN Under-Secretary-General attended the press conference and delivered a speech. This report is intended to supplement the original Resource Efficiency: Economics and Outlook for Asia and the Pacific report (UNEP 2011). It provides more detailed data and analysis specific to China and can be thought of as a single country focus version of that report. The content of this report focuses on deepening analyses specifically relating to resource use pattern, resource efficiency, drivers of resource use, Greenhouse gas emissions and resource efficiency policy in China.
