Industrialization of Modifying PVDC Resin

A team led by Prof. Xue Lixin and Asso. Prof. Liu Fu from the Ningbo Institute of Material Technology and Engineering has made significant progress in the project of “Optimizing Film Producing Process for Domestic Polyvinyl dichloride (PVDC) Resin”. Since November 2010, the team has completed all relevant work, including lab-scale film blowing formulation and process optimization. The project sponsor, Ningbo Juhua S&T Company, Ltd. and the Institute both passed the acceptance check for the project. The quality of produced film samples satisfied the Chinese National Standard GB/T17000-2008 for food packaging. The team now focused its work on the industrialization of the film. Using new formulas and optimized film blowing process, the “fish eye” spot numbers and sizes can be significantly reduced while the mechanical properties of the films can be improved without sacrificing barrier properties for water and oxygen. The industrialization of this new optimized process will allow PVDC resin to be processed into high quality packaging film and to compete for the better in the world food packaging markets.
