Spotlights of ExchangesUS Treasury Minister Henry Paulson Lectured in CAS On April.3 morning, Henry M. Paulson, Jr., the visiting US Secretary of Treasury delivered a speech entitled Meeting the Challenge: A Partnership on Energy and the Environment at the CAS Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences. Jiang Mianheng, Vice President of CAS, met with Henry Paulson and chaired the meeting. Princess Sirindhorn Attends Signing Ceremony of MOU between CAS and Thailand Units On April.3 morning, Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Princess of Thailand attended the signing ceremony for Cooperation Memo between the Graduate University of CAS (GUCAS) and Thailand Civil Servants Commission with the company of Fu Xuezhang, former Chinese ambassador to Thailand and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ma Shizhuang, Vice President of GUCAS, and Preecha Vajrabhaya, Secretary General of Thailand Civil Servants Commission signed the agreement on behalf of the two sides respectively. In accordance with the Memo, the two sides will set up GUCAS-Royal Thai Government Scholarship to sponsor a project that the Thai students will fulfill their master and doctoral education in GUCAS. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST Visits GUCAS On April 21 afternoon, Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), led a delegation composed of head of Bureau of International Cooperation, VAST, Director of the Institute of Technological Research and Application to visit the Graduate University of CAS (GUCAS). During the friendly discussion, President Chau expressed the intent to strengthen the cooperation with GUCAS. CAREERI Signed Cooperation Agreement with MAS On March 31, Baatar Chadraa, President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), paid a visit to the Cold and Arid Regions Environment and Engineering Research Institute (CAREERI) with his entourage and signed an agreement on joint-construction of a field station in Mongolia, which will further strengthen cooperation on the following areas: the land surface process and environmental evolution in arid areas; paleoclimate change in sandy areas, grassland and lakes; geological and hydrological conditions in arid zones, soil degradation and desertification and restoration of eco-systems, etc. Luigi Paganetto, ENEA Chairman Visits CAS Energy Unit From April 21 to 22, Luigi Paganetto, Chairman of ENEA paid a visit to the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, CAS. Luigi Paganetto and his entourage discussed with the host about scientific and technological cooperation on renewable energy. Framework Agreement Signed between CAS and Korean Units On May 29, the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, CAS signed a cooperation framework agreement with Korean Ceramic Engineering and Technology Institute. Pursuant to the agreement, both sides will launch profounder cooperation and exchanges on collaborative research, resource sharing, mutual visit and academic communication, etc. Agreement Signed between CAS Institute and Singapore Temasek Polytechnic On April 2 afternoon, Boo Khen Hua, Principal and CEO of Singapore Temasek Polytechnic and his entourage paid a visit to the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS. The tow sides signed a cooperative agreement, with emphasis focused on the cooperation and exchanges on fuel cells. Alain Bugat, Chairman of CEA Visits USTC On May 30, Alain Bugat, Chairman of Commissariat ид l'Energie Atomique (CEA), France paid a visit to the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) with company of the nuclear Counsellor of the French Embassy to China. In recent years, USTC and CEA have maintained closer cooperation and exchanges. From Nov. 11 to 28, 2007, the two sides held the first Sino-French Bilateral Academic Workshop on nano-science in Hefei National Laboratory of Physical Sciences at Microscale. After the workshop, the two sides signed a formal cooperation memorandum.
