China’s AUV Dives to Deep Sea
Recently, "Qianlong 1", China's first 6,000 meters unmanned untethered submersible (AUV), successfully completed its first trial diving in the eastern Pacific Ocean, which is an important step in China’s deep-sea exploration. The development project of "Qianlong 1" is developed and coordinated by the Shenyang Institute of Automation, CAS in collaboration with the Institute of Acoustics, CAS, the Harbin Engineering University, and relevant institutions. "Qianlong 1" is totally a home-grown deep-sea exploration vehicle, the main task of which is to find and determine the potential areas where the natural resources exist, and to acquire necessary marine elements on the seabed, so as to provide solid data and evidences for evaluation of the potential resources if they have commercial value for industrial exploitation.
