Experimental-scale CSPD System

The first concentrated solar power & desalination (CSPD) experimental scale system in China is demonstrated in Lingao, Hainan province. This system was designed and constructed by the Institute of Electrical Engineering, CAS, with support of the Hainan Sun Power Co., Ltd. and Beijing Huan-energy Technology Development Co., Ltd. Focused on the conditions of areas with oceanic climate and strong wind, the light-weight and high-strength concentrator was designed and tested during the development and implementation of this project. At the same time, this system uses the exhaust steam of the CSP system for water treatment, which realizes the energy cascaded utilization and improves the integrated energy efficiency of the combined cycle. The system consists of a solar collector field with an area of 200 m2, one thermal system and one MED desalination system with the designed capacity of 120 kW and 5m3/d respectively. The first commission test showed that the system is capable of producing 2.0 MPa saturated steam and 0.35m3/h fresh water. The research team has applied for 3 invention patents concerned with the solar desalination and parabolic trough solar collector.
