Bai Chunli Meets with Lino Baranao

CAS President Bai Chunli met with Dr. Lino Baranao, minister of Science, Technology and Innovative Production of Argentina, and his delegation on June 6. They reviewed cooperation between China and Argentina over the last 20 years and exchanged ideas on how to promote active and concrete collaboration in more areas.

Bai Chunli Meets with Australian Guests

CAS President Bai Chunli met with Dr. David Wood, a professor of engineering at the University of Melbourne and former president of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), on June 27, 2013. Their discussion focused on cooperation between China and Australia in the field of chemistry.

Lu Yongxiang Attends 13th IAC Council Meeting

The InterAcademy Council (IAC) held its 13th Council Meeting in Amsterdam, on June 24-26, 2013. Lu Yongxiang, co-chairman of IAC and former president of CAS, and Prof. Robert Dijkgraaf, former president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, jointly chaired the meeting. Over 30 representatives and observers from IAC member academies attended the meeting.

Li Jinghai Meets with U.S. SRC Group

CAS Vice President Li Jinghai met with a delegation from the Space Research Committee (SRC), of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council of the United States on June 20, 2013. Discussions focused on how to conduct strategic studies and to enhance cooperation in this respect. Li said CAS supports the idea of periodically sponsoring joint workshops on space research for young scientists.

Yin Hejun Meets with Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.

CAS Vice President Yin Hejun met with Dr. Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., president of Purdue University, former director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush, and former governor of Indiana. Dr. Daniels is also co-chair of the newly established Committee on Human Spaceflight of the National Research Council under the National Academy of Sciences. Both parties exchanged views on the development of manned spacecraft in China and the United States, as well as related public opinion. They also agreed to encourage communication and cooperation between the two countries in the field of space science.

Zhang Yaping Meets with MAS President

CAS Vice President Zhang Yaping met with Prof. Enkhtuvshin, president of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), and his delegation on June 24, 2013. The delegation also included Mr. E. Dulguun, foreign policy advisor to the Mongolian Prime Minister and Dr. Gan-Erdene, secretary-general of the National Science and Technology Council of Mongolia. The Mongolian delegation visited CAS’s Tangshan Research and Commercialization Center for High Technology the next day. The parties preliminarily agreed to promote cooperation between the MAS Incubation Center and the Tangshan Center.

Fang Xin Meets with TWAS Officer

Prof. Fang Xin, president of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and member of the CAS Presidium, met with Dr. Peter McGrath, program officer of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), on July 1, 2013.
