International CooperationScientific Cooperation Strengthened under SCO Framework The Forum on Scientific Cooperation among National Research Institutions under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) proposed and sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences held in Urumqi on June 24th and 25th. There were all together more than 70 people attended the Forum, including Presidents or vice presidents of academies, directors of research institutes and scientists from Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Russia, Tadzhikistan, and Mongolia. Li Jiayang, Vice President of CAS, and Jin Nuo, Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, delivered speeches respectively at the opening ceremony of the forum. The representatives from the above mentioned six academies jointly signed the ¡°Statement of Strengthening Scientific Cooperation among the National Research Institutions under the Framework of SCO¡± during the Forum. It was decided that the second forum will be held in New Siberia in 2009. Sino-Japanese Round Table Meeting on S&T Held On June 10, the Third Sino-Japanese Round Table Meeting on Science and Technology, jointly held by CAS and Japanese National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, was held in Suzhou. Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, Jiang Mianheng, Vice President of CAS, Akito Arima, former Japanese Minister of Education, Science, Sports and Culture, Hiroyuki Yoshikawa, President of Japanese National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and more than 40 scholars from the two sides, as well as representatives from the national research institutes, colleges and large businesses attended the meeting. CAS and BP: Join Hands for Cleaner Energy On July 16, Li Jinghai, Vice President of CAS, met with Iain Conn, Executive Vice President of BP Group and his entourage. The two sides reviewed with satisfaction operations of the joint working group since the Clean Energy Commercialization Centre (CECC) was under preparation, and further exchanged views on partner selection principle. On the same day, Li Jinghai and Iain Conn put their signatures on the Agreement for the Partner Selection Principle and Technology Development Route of CECC. |
