Brief NewsLi Jinghai Meets with Vice President of EPFL On Jan. 10, Li Jinghai, Vice President of CAS, met with the visiting EPFL Vice President Prof. Phillip Gillet and his delegation. Li gave the guests an overview of CAS’s recent achievements in international cooperation, including the progress of the Sino-Swiss Science & Technology Cooperation Program. He expressed his wish for both parties to further expand their partnership on the basis of existing collaborations. In addition, he invited the Swiss visitors to facilitate the exchange of researchers between Switzerland and China via CAS’ international fellowship programs. Prof. Gillet suggested that the parties could collaborate in the form of joint projects, and even joint research centers. Ding Zhongli Visits Malaysia and Indonesia Ding Zhongli, CAS Vice President, led a delegation to Malaysia and Indonesia from Jan. 8-15, 2013. In Malaysia, the delegation visited Universiti Sains Malasia, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia and Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve. In Indonesia, the delegation visited Udayana University and Bogor Botanical Gardens. Meetings regarding promoting cooperation in biodiversity and marine sciences were held between the delegation and the above mentioned research institutions. Zhang Yaping Meets with Morocco Delegation Zhang Yaping, CAS Vice President, met with Omar Fassi Fehri, President of the Hassan II Academy of Sciences & Technology of Morocco on Dec. 17, 2012. An MOU to promote cooperation between the two academies was signed after the meeting. Both sides agreed to facilitate cooperative research projects and personnel exchange in the future. Fang Xin Visits Kenya and Nigeria From Nov. 24-30, 2012, at the invitation of Dr. Rispah N. Oduwo OGW, Secretary General of Women in Science,Technology and Innovation (WOSTI), Kenya and Prof. A.D. Ighoroji, Vice Chairperson of Nigerian Organization for Women in Science, Prof. Fang Xin, Member of the Presidium of CAS and Chairperson of the Organization for Women in Science in the Developing Countries (OWSD), led a delegation to visit Kenya and Nigeria. Prof. Fang met with Rose Nyanga, Chairperson of WOSTI and Prof. Berhanu, TWAS Regional Office in Africa in Kenya. She gave a presentation on CAS, the status-quo of women in science & technology in China, and the CAS-TWAS President’s Fellowship Program. Prof. Fang’s delegation was also warmly received by Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, President of Nigerian Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Ahbor Ighoroji, Vice Chairman of OWSD. |
