Earth Sciences International Cooperation Briefs Friendly Visits

MOU between CAS and NRC of Egypt Signed

On Dec. 5, Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, Bai Chunli, Executive Vice President of CAS and their entourage paid a visit to the National Research Centre (NRC) of Egypt. Hany El Nazer, President of NRC and Osama El-Shabrawy, Vice President of NRC, etc. warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation. President Lu Yongxiang and President Hany El Nazer signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Exchange and Cooperation between the two parties.

Cooperation Agreement Signed by CAS and NASB, Belarus

On Dec. 5, Li Jinghai, Vice President of CAS and Mikhail V. Myasnikovich, the visiting President of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, (NASB) put their names on an agreement for S&T cooperation between the two academies in Beijing.

Bai Chunli Meets Participants of HIROs Forum

Bai Chunli, Executive Vice President of CAS, entertained to dinner, on Dec. 19, 2005, participants of the Forum for Heads of International (Biomedical) Research Organizations (HIROs) on behalf of President Lu Yongxiang of CAS in Beijing. He also witnessed the signing ceremony of the Revision to the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation between CAS and US National Institutes of Health (NIH). The document was signed by Chen Zhu, Vice President of CAS and Elias A. Zerhouni, President of NIH on behalf of their respective organizations.

On Dec. 20, 2005, 15 representatives from the organization participated in the Forum on Biomedical Policy in China and Other Countries organized by CAS and the Chinese Academy of Medicine.

INFN Delegation Visits Institute of High Energy Physics

From Jan. 4 to 11, a delegation from the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) headed by President Roberto Petronzio paid a visit to the Institute of High Energy Physics of CAS.

The INFN delegation arrived in Beijing on Jan. 4 and then went directly to Tibet for a field inspection of the facilities at Yangbajing International Cosmic-Ray Observatory of the Institute of High Energy Physics of CAS and the recent progress of the jointly implemented the Astrophysics Research at Ground based Observatory (ARGO) experiment, and they were satisfied with the cooperation.
