Earth Sciences International Cooperation Briefs Friendly Visits
  • From Dec. 22 to 29, Prof. Reynolds Gordon of the Massey University, New Zealand, a famous expert in animal nutrition and physiology, paid an 8-day work visit to the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA), CAS.
  • Recently, Dr. Michael Raupach, Chairman of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Global Carbon Program (GCP) paid a visit to the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, and in the meantime, inspected the GCP Asia Office and its operation, which is located in the Institute.
  • Recently, the Training Facility for the Third World Academy Scholarship at the Institute of Microbiology, CAS, welcomed its first winner of the scholarship, Dr. Ousman Diagne from Senegal. He will be engaged in microbial degradation of pollutants at the Environmental Microbiology Center, Institute of Microbiology, CAS.
  • Recently, Dr. W. Mauser, Chairman of the National Committee of Global Change Research of Germany (NKGCF) and professor of the University of Munich, and his entourage paid a visit to the Qianyanzhou Experiment Station of the Institute for Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS.
  • On the afternoon of Dec. 2, Dr. Stefan Voigt, leader of the Center for Remote Sensing Data of the German Aeronautics and Space Administration, and his entourage of 4 people, paid a visit to the Institute of Remote Sensing Application, CAS.
  • Recently, Luo Hongjie, Director General of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, CAS, and his entourage, paid a visit to the Japanese National Institute for Materials Science(NIMS). During the visit, the Center for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics and the Center for Biomaterials, NIMS signed a framework agreement on bilateral cooperation.
  • On Dec. 6, Dr. Alan Bull, the British coordinator for the joint applied Project on the Development of the Deep Sea Actinomycetes and Its Application in Medicine and Multifunctional Enzyme and professor of the Biotechnology Center of the Kent University at Canterbury and his entourage paid a visit to the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS. He gave a lecture entitled Deep Sea Actinomycetes: Diversity and Natural Product Discovery.
  • From Dec. 8 to 11, Prof. Zhu Huiyong of the Center of Inorganic Materials of the Queensland University of Science and Technology paid a visit to the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry and delivered a lecture entitled One-Dimension Structure of Metal Oxide and Multi-metal Salts.
  • On the morning of Dec. 14, a CAS delegation of 6 people paid a visit to the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, and signed a cooperative agreement on the utilization and development of biomass technology between the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, and the Department of Agriculture of the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation.
  • On Dec. 14, Mr. Henning Fode , Director of the Public Prosecutions of the Kingdom of Denmark, and his entourage paid a visit to the Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden, CAS.
  • On Dec. 18, Elias A, Zerhouni , President of the American National Institute of Health (NIH), paid a visit to the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, CAS.
  • From Dec. 21 to 22, a nano-technology delegation of 5 people from the Korean Academy of Sciences, DPRK headed by Kim Sunchol paid a visit to the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, CAS.
  • On Dec. 27, Academician A. Shpak, First Vice President of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (UAS), Director General of the Institute of Metal Physics, Dr. V. Machulin, member of the Presidium of UAS and Director General of the Institute of Semiconductor Physics, Dr. S. Myakushko, Director General of the International Relationship Office of UAS and their entourage paid a visit to the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, CAS and the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics .
  • Recently, Dr. Amitosh Verma and Dr. Merajuddin Khan, two foreign scientists came to work subsequently in the Postdoctoral Station for biological research in the South China Botanical Garden, CAS .
  • On Dec. 31, the Wuhan Botanical Garden, CAS, invited Prof. Li Bailian from the Department of Forest and Environmental Resources of the North Carolina State University as a visiting professor.
  • Recently, a three-year agreement on non-phogene clean catalytic synthesis was signed between the Bayer Material Science and the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS.
  • On the morning of Jan. 12, 2006, Patrick Ledermann, deputy director of the Department of Nuclear Energy Resources of the French Atomic Energy Commission and his entourage paid a visit to CAS.
  • On Jan. 13, 2006, Mr. Belloc, Councilor for Science and Technology of the French Embassy to China, and his entourage, paid a visit to CAS.
  • On the afternoon of Jan. 18, 2006, Pravich Rattanapian, Minister of Science and Technology of the Kingdom of Thailand and his entourage paid a visit to the Institute of Electronics, CAS
