Chen Zhu Meets British Delegation

The China-British Plant Conservation Forum Wuhan Seminar was held at the Wuhan Botanical Garden, CAS from Oct. 12 th to 13 th . The participants included a British delegation of 14 most senior experts, including Dr. Stephen Blackore, academician of the Royal Academy of Science and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Sir Peter R. Crane, academician of UK Royal Academy of Science and director of UK Royal Botanic Gardens, Dr. Johannes Vogel, academician of UK Royal Academy of Science and director of Biodiversity of British Natural History Museum and Mr. Carol Marion Rennie, Executive of Chinese Projects of UK Royal Academy of Science.

Meridian Project -- A Project of the State Large Facility Program Triggered

A project of scientific research on the space weather monitoring, namely the Meridian Space Weather Monitoring Project (Meridian Project for short), proposed by several research institutes and universities in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information Industry, etc., has been approved recently by the State Development and Reform Commission(SDRC). With objectives of investigating the space weather cause-consequence chain in the solar-terrestrial space, understanding the processes of the catastrophic space weather events, and the regional characteristics of the environment above China's territory, so as to help ensuring the safety of space activities such as satellite operation, etc., the project will set up a large-scale ground-based monitoring system composed of 15 stations along the longitude of 120”ćE and the latitude of 30”ćN. The initiative of the Meridian Project is to conduct a comprehensive multi-layered and inter-disciplinary survey and exploration of space environment by advanced ground based techniques.
