Chen Zhu Meets Peruvian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs
On June 3, Chen Zhu, Vice President of CAS, held talks with Armando Lecaros, Peruvian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary General, and his entourage, who were accompanying Peruvian President to visit China. During the talks, the two sides agreed that the cooperation has a bright perspective in fields as herbal medicine, alpine medicine, biodiversity conservation, and service functions of ecosystem. They signed an Agreement on the Academic Exchange and Cooperation between CAS and the Peruvian National Committee of Science. |

President Lu Yongxiang Meets AAAS CEO
Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress and President of CAS held talks with Dr. Alan I. Leshner, Chief Executive Officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and executive publisher of the journal Science , on June 22 in Beijing.
On behalf of CAS, President Lu first extended a warm welcome to Dr. Alan I. Leshner and his entourage for their visit. He expressed that CAS is willing to strengthen its exchange and cooperation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the publishing house of the journal Science. President Lu also suggested to promote cooperation between the two sides in the form of holding forums in scientific education, sustainable development of the environment, and the policy of science and technology, etc.
President Lu Yongxiang Meets Italian Minister
Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress and President of CAS, met Letizia Moratti, Italian Minister of Education, University and Research and her entourage on July 4 in Beijing. At the meeting, President Lu pleasantly recalled the situation when Ms Letizia Moratti awarded him the President's Science and Culture Gold Medal on behalf of the Italian president. He made positive comments on the cooperation between the two sides in six key fields such as advanced materials, earth observation, environmental monitoring, cultural heritage, sustainable development, and physics.
Ms. Moratti expressed that in the memorandum on bilateral cooperation in science and technology and its appendixes to be signed today will include five more cooperative fields, such as space technology, medicine, pharmacology, agriculture and language technology in addition to the six key fields previously decided for the cooperation. This shows that the cooperation between the two sides has been expanding. President Lu and Ms. Moratti exchanged views on issues related to joint education of doctoral students and green chemistry, etc. |

President Lu Meets Australian Minister of Education, Science and Training
Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress and President of CAS met with Dr. Brendan Nelson, Australian Minister for Education, Science and Training, and his entourage on July 4 in Beijing.
President Lu pointed out that the exchange and cooperation between CAS and Australia could be in such cutting edge fields as energy and nano-science in the future. Dr. Nelson briefed President Lu on recent development in Australia in terms of application aspects of energy source and nuclear physics, and wished to strengthen collaboration in these key areas between China and Australia.
