Research & Application International Cooperation Briefs Friendly Visits
  • On May 30, a Delegation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberia, headed by V.M Fomin, Correspondence Member and Secretary-General of the Russian Academy of Sciences paid a visit to the Institute of Metal Research, CAS. The two sides signed a Letter of Intent on the Cooperation between the Institute of Metal Research, CAS and the corresponding institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberia in the field of advanced materials and surface engineering technology.
  • On May 30, Karen Holbrook, President of the Ohio State University, U. S., and Robert McGrath, Vice President of the Ohio State University, U. S., accompanied by Keith Clemenger, Chief Representative of the Beijing Representative Office of the Association of International Education, paid a visit to the Graduate School of CAS.
  • On May 31, Shi Jiancheng, professor from the Institute for Earth System Science of the University of California, Santa Barbara, paid a visit to the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS.
  • On June 1-3, Prof. Peter Clift from the Department of Geology and Oil Geology of the British Aberdeen University and his entourage paid a visit to the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS.
  • On the afternoon of June 3, Jurgen Sanders, Counsellor of Science and Technology from the European Union Delegation to China, paid a visit to the Institute of Microbiology, CAS.
  • On June 5-7, Mr. Roel Prins, Academician of the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences, Chief Editor of Journal of Catalysis, world-famous catalysis scientist and professor of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology paid a visit to the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS.
  • On May 8-June 5, Prof. D. D. Archbold from the University of Kentucky, U. S., paid a visit to the Institute of Botany for academic exchanges.
  • On June 10, Curator Julia G. Hua and Richard Erwin from the Public Library Cent Building in the Queen's Area of New York paid a visit to the Shanghai Information Center for Life Sciences for a survey.
  • On June 20, Marc Caffee, Jonaathan Harbor, and Arjen Stroeven, scientists from the Purdue University, U. S, paid a visit to the Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes, CAS.
  • On June 21, Ashiq Ahmad Khan, Chief Technical Adviser of WWF to Pakistan and Muhammad Yousaf Qureshi, Pakistani Minister of Fishery and Wild Animals, and their entourage paid a visit to the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS.
  • Recently, at the invitation of the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS, Prof. Yiu-Wing Mai from the College of Aeronautic Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of the University of Sydney paid a visit to the Institute. Liu Xinhou, Director of the Institute, awarded Yiu-Wing Mai with a Certificate of Honorary Professorship on behalf of the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS.
  • Recently, David J. Rapport, former President of the International Society for Ecosystem Health and professor in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph, and Luisa Maffi, Chairman of the International Languages and Biological Diversity Organization, and senior research fellow from the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution, U. S., paid a 2-week visit to the Shenyang Institute of Applied Ecology, CAS.
  • Recently, Suzanne Hurtubise, Vice Minister of Industry, Canada, accompanied by the Consul General of the Canadian Consulate in Guangzhou, paid a visit to the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, CAS.
  • Recently, Dr. Adam from the Oxford University, UK, paid a visit to the 4 th Research Office of the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, CAS.
  • On July 5, Brendan Nelson, Minister of the Australian Department of Education, Science & Training and Sally Paul, Executive Vice Minister of the Department, and their entourage paid a visit to the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, CAS.
  • On July 12, Dr. Patricia A. Tester, President of ISSHA, and professor from NOAA, and Dr. R. Wayne Litaker from NOAA, paid a visit to the Institute of Oceanology, CAS, on invitation.
  • On July 12-15, Prof. Ryszard Szczerba, Principal of the Asymptotic Giant Branch Stars , the Sino-Polish cooperative project on the side of Poland, and expert from the Polish Copernicus Astronomical Center, paid a visit to the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, CAS, together with his wife.
  • On July 16-19, Dr. Liu Zhanjiang, Director and leading professor of the Center for Marine Biological Genome of the Auburn University, U. S., chief editor of Marine Biotechnology and Chairman of the American Animal Genome and aquatic products, paid a visit to the Institute of Hydrobiology.
  • On the afternoon of July 20, Prof. Nguyen Van Mau, President of the National University of Hanoi, and his entourage of three paid a work visit to the Institute of Zoology, CAS.
  • On the afternoon of July 22, Prof. Elisabeth Giacobino, Research Director of the Department of Higher Education Research, France, paid a visit to the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology.
  • On July 22-August 9, Amots Dafni, professor from the College of Evolution of the University of Haifa, Israel, and deputy chief editor of the journal Plant Systematics and Evolution , paid an academic visit to the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology, CAS and made a field research in the Haibei Experimental Station of Alpine Meadow Ecosystem on the pollination of alpine plants and procreation adaptation.
