Nano-Technology in CAS

Nanometer Security Discussed at Science Meeting in Xiangshan

From Nov. 30~Dec. 2, the 243rd Xiangshan Science Workshop themed the Bio-effects of Nanometer Scale Materials was held in the Xiangshan Hill. Vice President Bai Chunli pointed out that the" Development first and Control next" mode brought a lot of disasters and lessons to our life and living environment. In the new century, we need new ideas of the "scientific viewpoint for development": the security studies should be carried out while nanometer technology is being developed, so that the nanometer technology may be the first new technology which is being intensively studied, and paid serious attention to, before it may produce negative effects and finally benefits the mankind safely.

AsiaNano Forum 2004 Held in Beijing

From Nov. 26~27, 2004 AsianNano Forum (ANF) was held in the International Exhibition Centre in Beijing, the topic was "Social Influence of Nano Science and Technology on the Asian Pacific Region ". This Forum was sponsored by the National Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NCNST) and the Japanese Industrial Technology Integrated Institute. Xie Sishen, Director of the National Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Member of CAS and chief scientist from the Institute of Physics, addressed the opening ceremony of the Forum.

ANF, a netwok-style cooperative organization, was founded in Thailand in May 2004. The first forum (ANFoS2004) took place from May 10~11, in Phuket in Thailand. Members of ANF include the following 13 countries and regions: Australia, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, HongKong (China) and Taiwan (China).
