Basic Research Sino-Japanese Scientists Jointly
Make Major Breakthrough in Super-Conductors On March 2, the Chinese scientists in Beijing and
the Japanese scientists in Tokyo simultaneously announced that after three
years effortsŁ¬ for the first time they have successfully developed a photo-electron
spectroscopy with ultrahigh resolution, which is higher than 1meV, and
still for the first time, they have observed the superconductive electrons.
The new type of ultraviolet non-linear optical crystals (KBe2BO3F2) and
prism coupling technology used for this work were provided by the Chinese
Scientists. This major discovery was published in the Physical Review
(Vol.94, 2005). Prof. Gross,
Nobel Prize Laureate, Visits Institute of Theoretical Physics From Feb. 27 to 28, Prof. David Gross, world
famous theoretical physicist, 2004 Nobel Prize Laureate in physics and
Director of the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics, USA made two
lectures entitled the Future of Physics and the Coming Revolution in Fundamental
Physics at the Forum on Science Frontiers in the Institute of Theoretical
Physics, CAS. More than 20 members of CAS and more than 600 teachers and
students from the Peking University, the Tsinghua University and other
universities and from some of the institutes of CAS attended the seminar. |
