Environmental Protection
Experts: Extreme Weather and
Climate Events Have Their Own Laws
On Oct 12, the Third International Symposium
on Extreme Weather and Climate Events and their Mechanics and Prediction
in Beijing was opened, as part of the Climate Forum, which was jointly
sponsored by CAS, the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the World
Meteorological Organization (WMO). Prof. Robert E. Dickinson, Chairman
of the American Geophysical Society, Academician of the two American national
academies, and Georgia Institute of Technology, Prof. Virulh Sa-yakanit,
member of TWAS and Congressman of Thailand, and other guests attended
the symposium. The symposium received more than 80 papers. More than 100
delegates from 17 countries and districts attended the opening ceremony.
The 12th International Symposium
in River and Lake Environments Held in Institute of Hydrobiology
On Nov. 2~4, the 12th International Symposium
in River and Lake Environments was held in the Institute of Hydrobiology,
CAS. More than 200 delegates from 10 countries and districts, such as
Esthonia, Finland, Germany, Japan, South Korea,
Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Mainland
China and Hong Kong attended the grand symposium entitled Fresh
Water Environments and Biological Varieties.
Various topics were discussed at the
Symposium: water eutrophication, biodiversity and its conservation,
ecological toxicology and eco-remediation, paliolimnology and community
ecology. About 120 Chinese and foreign scientists presented lectures
or posters.
