Introduction to UCAS
The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is an innovative university that integrates scientific research and education, focuses mainly on graduate education, and features outstanding undergraduate education.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the linchpin of China’s drive to explore and harness high technology and the natural sciences for the benefit of China and the world. Comprising a comprehensive research and development network, a merit-based learned society and a system of higher education, CAS brings together scientists and engineers from China and around the world to address both theoretical and applied problems using world-class scientific and management approaches.
UCAS and the research institutions of CAS (including institutes, academies, observatories, centers, etc., hereinafter referred to as “training units”) are highly integrated in terms of management system, teaching staff, training system, and scientific research work. UCAS has an extensive education network. There are four campuses in Beijing (Yuquanlu, Zhongguancun, Olympic Village, Yanqi Lake), five education bases outside Beijing (Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Lanzhou) and over 100 training units located in all over the country.
International Reputation
According to the latest data of Essential Science Indicators (ESI), UCAS is ranked 1st among universities in China and 17th in the world, with 22 disciplines in the top 1 percent and 13 disciplines in 1‰. Nature Index latest data ranks UCAS 4th in the world. In the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Reputation Rankings, UCAS is ranked 61-70. The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2023-2024 ranking list ranks UCAS 50th globally.
Introduction to the Programs
UCAS accepts international students through over 20 UCAS faculties and over 100 research institutions of CAS. Refer to UCAS English website for information about programs, supervisors, colleges, and research institutes.
The programs are recruiting international students from all over the world to pursue master’s or doctoral education at UCAS. Master programs commonly last for 3 years. Doctoral programs commonly last for 3 to 4 years.
Certificates of graduation and degrees will be awarded to those who have met the requirements of graduation and degree conferment. Refer to the list of majors through the website https://english.ucas.ac.cn/index.php/admission/international-students/major.
General Conditions for Applicants
1. Non-Chinese citizens who abide by China’s laws and decrees, as well as UCAS’s rules and regulations.
2. Being of good character and in good health.
3. Applicants for master’s programs must possess a degree or academic qualification equivalent to a Chinese bachelor’s degree; applicants for doctoral programs must possess a degree or academic qualification equivalent to a Chinese master’s degree. Due to differences in educational systems between some countries and China, please refer to Attachment 1 for specific degree requirements for applicants from certain countries.
4. English proficiency is required. For Chinese-instructed programs, the applicant’s Chinese proficiency shall reach at least HSK Level 5 with no less than 180 scores.
Application Deadline
May 15, 2025. For those who apply to UCAS for scholarship, please submit application before February 15, 2025.

Scholarship Programs Offered by UCAS
1. Chinese Government Scholarship
The Chinese Government Scholarship includes Bilateral Program, China-EU Student Exchange Program, China-ASEAN University Network Scholarship Program, and other programs supporting international students to pursue graduate degrees in China. The scholarship covers tuition fees, application fees, living allowance, basic on-campus accommodation, and medical insurance.

2. CAS-ANSO Scholarship
The CAS-ANSO Scholarship (Degree Program) offers full scholarship for outstanding students from all over the world to pursue postgraduate education at UCAS. It covers tuition waiver, application fee waiver, monthly stipend, international travel allowance/reimbursement from awardee’s home country to China (one trip per awarded candidate), one-time visa/residence permit allowance and medical insurance.

3. UCAS Scholarship for International Students
The UCAS Scholarship for International Students offers full and partial scholarship for international students to pursue postgraduate education at UCAS. The full scholarship covers tuition waiver, application fee waiver, basic accommodation, living allowance, and medical insurance, while the partial scholarship covers some items of the full.
