The Beijing Overseas Talents Center (BOTC) invited a group of expats working in Beijing to observe Duanwu, or the Dragon Boat Festival, through a calligraphy and painting exhibition and a concert at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on June 21.

The members of the 20-plus team are foreign experts working in 10 Beijing-based universities and research institutes, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the Chinese Institute for Brain Research.

Foreign experts from 10 Beijing-based universities and research institutes were invited to visit a Chinese calligraphy and painting exhibition and a concert at the NCPA in the Chinese capital city on June 21.

The foreign experts said they were amazed by the colorful forms and unique style of the paintings and calligraphic works collected from all walks of life across China. These works not only showcase the outstanding achievements of the Chinese calligraphy and painting arts, but also reflect China’s cultural confidence and artistic innovation.

Afterwards, the team attended a concert that combined traditional Duanwu elements with modern music. They all agreed that the enjoyable performance deepened their understanding and identification with Chinese culture.

Different performances are staged at the concert.

Caucher Birkar from Tsinghua spoke highly of the exhibition and the concert, adding that this kind of exchange activity could help foreign experts better understand and identify with Chinese culture and add more fun to their lives in Beijing.

His remarks were echoed by Mark Levine, a representative from Minzu University of China.

BOTC, as a service provider for foreign talents working and living in Beijing, said it would plan more cultural exchange activities and support the city’s development as a global sci-tech innovation center and a highland of leading professionals.
