Since the implementation of the Regulations of Beijing Municipality on Improving the Language Environment for International Exchanges (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations), the Beijing Municipal Health Commission has rolled out a series of measures to make the city’s healthcare services more accessible to international patients. Recently, a range of new improvements were made in the healthcare sector’s foreign language services.

Beijing has launched multilingual versions of the Medical Guide for Foreigners in Beijing (hereinafter referred to as the Guide). Available in English, French, Spanish, and Japanese, the Guide offers detailed assistance for international patients seeking medical care in Beijing. It includes basic details of 17 international medical service providers (including Peking Union Medical College Hospital) offering emergency services and procedures for their appointment booking, medical service processes, and insurance payments. Additionally, it contains a directory of 125 hospitals across the city that offers full-process services in foreign languages, along with their specific languages available.
The Guide is now accessible on the International Web Portal of Beijing and has been distributed at relevant medical institutions.

More and more medical institutions are offering English-language appointment booking services. The number of medical institutions offering full-process English booking services through the “Jingtong” mini-program has increased to 28, allowing foreign patients to make appointments after login and identity authentication.
Language training for medical staff has been strengthened. Together with Peking University’s School of Health Humanities, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission has trained over 50 employees (including the core ones) from international departments and other related departments of 26 Grade A tertiary hospitals, focusing on medical English translation and practical communication skills at clinical settings.
The Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, in conjunction with the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, will continue promoting the implementation of the Regulations and enhancing international services in the city’s healthcare sector.
