Recently, Dr. Chen Wei from the Institute for the History of Natural Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences published a compilation of information on dozens of scientific figures along the ancient Silk Road.
Scientific and technological innovation is an inexhaustible driving force for the development of human civilization, and scientific and technological cooperation are important aspects of promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. The scientific figures along the ancient Silk Road made significant contributions to the development of the whole of human civilization. Summarizing their social and institutional context, growth experiences and innovative activities deeply linked to inter-regional movements can provide a lesson for today’s international scientific and technological cooperation, help to realize the innovative culture of the ancient Silk Road and promote mutual understanding between peoples.
Chen’s work, categorized by culture and region, highlights the contributions of 35 figures from the ancient Silk Road in the field of scientific and technological development, and provides a basis for further studies such as exploring the spirit of those scientists and investigating the factors influencing historical innovations from a global perspective.
