A large delegation of Chinese scientists and officials including the Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Prof Tan Tieniu, visited the Institut Pasteur in Paris on July 1st. The visit, which took place in the context of a high-level Franco-Chinese dialogue on human and cultural exchanges, was to take part in a symposium on emerging infectious diseases. It helped to promote exchanges and the emergence of scientific projects between Chinese and French researchers, in particular those linked to the P4 laboratory of Wuhan. For this purpose, more than 20 researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the Institut Pasteur in Shanghai, the Institut Pasteur, the CNRS, the Inserm and the University of Aix Marseille were invited to present their work. The event was also marked by the joint announcement of the Institut Pasteur and the Fondation Mérieux of the creation of a group with a four-year mandate to support a joint research laboratory being set up by the Institut Pasteur in Shanghai and the Wuhan Institute of virology. It was also an opportunity to sign a new agreement with CAS on the Shanghai Institut Pasteur’s strategy for the coming years.
