When world leaders gathered in Paris at the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to address climate change---probably the biggest challenge human beings face in the 21st Century---Chinese scientists’ voices were heard. On December 1 in Paris, the Chinese National Committee for Future Earth (CNC-FE) held an event entitled “Climate Change and Resilience: Co-design for Urbanization in China”. NC-FE vice Chair Prof. Wu Guoxiong from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS) chaired the event. Around 80 COP21 accredited participants were in attendance.

The Carbon Project, one of the five-year CAS Strategic Priority Program, has also made its debut at COP 21 on December 12 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The project was launched in 2011 to address climate change and to seek an optimized approach for sustainable development in China.
