China and New Zealand signed an agreement on November 16 to build a joint center for medical research in Auckland, New Zealand's biggest city.
The joint center for Biomedicine will seek new treatments for diseases such as cancer.
It is a collaboration between the University of Auckland’s Maurice Wilkins Center for Molecular Biodiscovery and Chinese Academy of Sciences' Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health.
Professor Stuart McCutcheon, vice chancellor of the University of Auckland, said that the new agreement marks a new stage in an exciting and forward-looking partnership that not only underlines the strong relationship between China and New Zealand in medical research but will generate significant medical and economic benefits for both countries.
