To further improve the talent funding system, attract and cultivate talents, particularly outstanding young talents from overseas to return (come) to work in China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) will continue to carry out the Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2024.

1. Program Positioning

The Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) is designed to attract and encourage outstanding young scholars (including non-Chinese foreign talents) who have achieved good results in natural sciences, engineering, and other fields to return (come) to China and work. These scholars are expected to independently choose research directions and conduct innovative research. The program aims to promote the rapid development of young scientific and technological talents, cultivate a group of outstanding academic talents who are expected to enter the forefront of world science and technology, thereby contributing to building China into a science and technology giant.

2. Founding Model

Funding amount: 1-3 million yuan

Funding period: 3 years

3. Things to Note for Applicants

Eligible applicants should, in accordance with the program guide, sign a work contract or intention agreement with their supporting institutions. They should log onto the information system after February 1, 2024, and complete the online Application Form for the National Natural Science Foundation of China Science Fund Program for Distinguished Youth Scholars (Overseas). Applicants are responsible for the authenticity of the information they provide in any application materials.

Applicants should fill out the Application Form online in simplified Chinese or English according to the instructions and outlines, and upload relevant attachments and materials.

The program adopts a paperless application process. Applicants should submit the electronic Application Form, attachments, notarized commitment letter, and other materials online to their supporting institutions. The supporting institutions will review the materials and submit them online to the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
