The 19th Chinese-American Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium was held both on and offline, from July 9 to 11.

More than 60 young scientists from the two countries’ research institutes and universities discussed interdisciplinary topics based on their academic backgrounds, such as astronomy, geoscience, and life sciences.

Sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS), this year’s event was organized by CAS’s Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research.

In his speech, NAS International Secretary John Hildebrand reviewed the development of the annual event and spoke highly of the meeting’s role in cultivating research leaders.

CAS’s Vice-President Zhang Yaping voiced his appreciation of the joint efforts made in preparation for this year’s symposium, and said that the meeting has grown into an important platform for excellent young scholars in nature sciences to enhance their exchanges and cooperation.

He said that he looks forward to building a dialogue mechanism and to jointly conducting strategy consultations, as well as to contributing to the scientific and technological development of the two countries and the rest of the world.

Initiated by leaders of the academies of sciences of China and the US in 1997, the symposium focuses on nature sciences and has become a brand event of scientific exchanges between the two countries.
