CHINESE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

Hou Jianguo, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), met in Beijing on December 4 with a delegation comprising Antoine Petit, Chairman and CEO of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Anne-Isabelle Etienvre, Chairman of the French Commission on Atomic and Alternative Energies (CEA), and Didier Samuel, President of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). Zhou Qi, CAS’s Vice President, accompanied the meeting.

Hou Jianguo and Antoine Petit sign a letter of intent on behalf of their respective institutions to jointly build the China-France Particle Physics Laboratory.

During the meeting, Hou Jianguo and Antoine Petit signed a letter of intent to establish the China-France Particle Physics Laboratory. This initiative aims to strengthen high-level cooperation between China and France in areas such as neutrino physics, high-energy cosmic-ray particles, physics and cosmology, future accelerators and detectors, and data science, while promoting the open sharing of major scientific and technological infrastructure.

Hou Jianguo and Didier Samuel signed another letter of intent to establish the China-France Healthy Aging Research Network. This research network will promote interdisciplinary research on brain health and neurodegenerative diseases, nutrition and metabolism, geriatric oncology, biomarkers, and tumor therapy, providing more robust scientific and technological support to address the global challenge of population aging.

Representatives from CAS’s Bureau of Basic Science Research, Bureau of Science and Technology for Sustainable Development, Bureau of Basic Capacity for Science and Technology, and Bureau of International Cooperation attended the meeting.
