Chinese Premier Li Keqiang delivered a speech at a symposium on China’s science and technology strategy in Beijing on July 27, where he also congratulated Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on its 60th anniversary.

The premier spoke highly of the CAS Academic Divisions’ contributions to China’s development in the past 60 years through scientific and technological achievements.

Premier Li said that China has entered a key stage for higher levels of development, and it is crucial to drive the advancement of science and technology as a primary productive force and give full play to innovation.

The premier also said he expects more integration of science and technology with people’s creative power, to make scientific and technological breakthroughs and turn these developments into productive power.

The passage connecting the CAS and the State Council is always smooth, as the premier said. He hailed the CAS as a national team and think tank for the development of China’s science and technology and its members as an important leading force for scientific and technological innovation. He also called for more participation by scientists in national decision-making and encouraged them to continue to lead the country’s innovation.

Prior to the symposium, the premier visited a photo exhibition on the CAS Academic Divisions’ history, research achievements, and scientific and technological strategy consultation.
