Led by Susil Premajayantha, Sri Lankan minister of science and technology, a delegation of 24 representatives of the NSF, the Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply, the Ministry of Health, and universities attended the conference.
China and Sri Lanka have always maintained close connections, said Susil Premajayantha.
At a ceremony attended by the leaders of the two countries in 2015 the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Sri Lanka’s Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply agreed a memorandum of understanding. In the next year, the NSFC reached a memorandum of understanding with the NSF, witnessed by the premiers of the two countries.
These MOUs outlined the exchanges and cooperation of the two sides in terms of scientific research and talents cultivation. CAS’ Research Center for Eco-environmental Sciences has made particular efforts and contributions in promoting China-Sri Lanka cooperation on CKDu and safe drinking water.
The China-Sri Lanka Center, which provides science and technology support to better Sri Lanka's living condition, was built by CAS in Sri Lanka with a focus on safe water supply and flooding caused by climate change.
