From November 23 to 27, Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), paid visits to research institutes, universities and relevant government agencies of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
During his visit to Almaty, Kazakhstan, Bai met with Murat Zhurinov, president of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, They exchanged ideas on science and technology cooperation between the two academies, as well as multilateral cooperation under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
In Kazakhstan’s capital Astana, Bai attended meetings with officials from the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Education and Science. They discussed on setting up regular cooperation mechanisms for ecological studies and agricultural science and technology development strategy consultation.
Bai also visited S.Seifullin Kazakh Agro Technical University, where he delivered a speech to more than 300 teachers and students.
On December 25, Bai visited the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He and the academy’s president, Shavkat I.Salikhov, discussed issues related to a planned drug research and development center for Central Asia and the expansion of science and education cooperation.
The two sides decided that an agreement for a new round of strategic cooperation will be signed at an appropriate time in 2016. They will also speed up preparations for the construction of a complex building of the above-mentioned drug R&D center.
